Edney’s series of radio broadcasts to celebrate WHKP’s 50th Anniversary provide most of the content of this work. The focus is mostly on the 20th Century history of Hendersonville and Henderson County.
This book started as a series of articles written by long-time Hendersonville Times-News Editor James T. Fain Jr. They were published in four special editions appearing in 1975-76. In 1979 the content was published in a single hardbound volume. The special editions are notable for the photographs they contain which are not in the hardbound version.
FitzSimons was a teacher, farmer, banker and local historian and his 5000 radio broadcasts provide the basis for this three volume collection of stories, legends and myths of Henderson County. FitzSimons was a gifted storyteller and his skills are on display throughout as he recounts the history and stories of cultural significance to Henderson County. It is important to note there is an index of the set in Volume 3.
